The cruise terminal in the port of Bilbao has been the place chosen for the celebration of the handover ceremony and the blessing of the “Juan Pablo II” freezer tuna vessel, construction C-324 of Astilleros Murueta. This boat has been built for the owner Diego Miletic of the Jadran Group and his godmother is Mia Peric, a friend of the Miletic family. The "Juan Pablo II" is a freezer tuna vessel specialized in fishing for tuna in tropical seas that, with 93 meters in length and a beam of 14.7 meters, has a capacity of more than 2,000 cubic meters for the storage of fish. in its 20 vats.

The vessel is designed by Astilleros de Murueta for purse seine fishing for tuna, and exceeds 19 knots at maximum propulsion power. It has a freezing capacity of more than 200 tons of fish per day, which ensures optimal fish storage for later marketing. State-of-the-art equipment has been installed both for propulsion, electrical generation and auxiliary systems, as well as for the search and capture of fish.

The Jadrán Group is a family business in Ecuador, with its main headquarters in Guayaquil, founded in 1995 by its current president, Diego Miletic. It currently employs more than 100 people and its fleet consists of 4 freezer tuna vessels that operate in Pacific waters, with Manta as the main base port.

The Basque shipbuilding sector maintains its productive activity despite the market still feeling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The three private Basque shipyards in operation, Murueta, Zamakona and Balenciaga, have achieved - thanks to their specialization in market niches very specific, such as deep-sea fishing vessels, special vessels to support marine platforms, or oceanographic vessels - maintain a workload for at least all this year as they have fourteen ships in their portfolio.
